The client, West Bengal State Health Department wanted visual integration that will represent the regions affected by any health issues. They wanted preparation of spatial database of different administrative layers of West Bengal. The different administrative layers include State, District, Block, Municipality, Ward, Gram Panchayat, Mouza etc.
Along with this, the client also wanted mapping of existing health infrastructure of the state, and mapping of the diseases that is affecting the health condition of the people for planning immediate protective measures.
According to the scope of the project, we provided GIS skill support to the Ministry of Health, Government of West Bengal. We developed general base map representing the health infrastructure of the State. The developed map also highlights the diseases that are affecting the health of the people in recent time. Information about the disease was provided by the client. This visual presentation in turn helped the client to take necessary measures to prevent further damage to the health of the people.
The final output helped the government to have a visual representation of the health status of the entire state. For instance, if the state’s health status gets affected by diseases like malaria, we provided a visual image in a map form to help the government in identifying the most affected regions. However, all those maps were prepared based on the health related statistical inputs from the government departments only.
