The inherently spatial nature of the mining industry has led to the increased implementation of GIS (Geographic Information System) for effective planning and monitoring of mining operations. Right from the initial stage of land survey to constructing boundary pillars and more, GIS plays a vital part in decision-making. CyberSWIFT Infotech has been a proud contributor of GIS services to aid mining activities for various reputed clients including Steel Authority of India (SAIL), Tata Steel, Vedanta, Hindalco Industries and Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL). This project was conducted to prepare cadastral maps and georeferenced mining lease maps of 4 mining leases in Jharkhand based on DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) survey. Similar projects were conducted for all of the aforementioned clients at multiple sites with all surveys being carried out as per the guidelines of IBM Circular no. 2/2010 of CCOM and MoEF (Ministry of Environment and Forests).
Objectives of the Project
The primary objective of this project was to identify and digitize the mining lease boundaries as per the requirements of Indian Bureau of Mines to prevent encroachment of mining plots and illegal activities. This would yield a complete decision-support system for monitoring mining operations. This was achieved by preparing georeferenced maps of the required areas depicting the mining lease boundaries along with the integration of the survey maps with satellite imagery.
Sourcing of high resolution satellite imagery from NRSC (National Remote Sensing Centre) Hyderabad and GTS points from Survey of India

Scanning, mosaicking, digitization and georeferencing of cadastral maps based on the collected GCPs (Ground Control Points)
Superimposition of the lease boundary survey points on digitized cadastral maps on a scale of 1:3960
Superimposition of the surveyed mining lease boundary points on satellite imagery
Integration of the georeferenced and digitized cadastral maps on the satellite imagery followed by georeferencing of the land features on these maps
The pillar-wise DGPS coordinates with location plan in both, hard copy and soft copy were delivered to the client along with the georeferenced cadastral maps.
